As part of the monitoring and evaluation mechanism established by the 2030 Agenda, Member States are encouraged to regularly submit Voluntary National Reviews to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). These reviews are an essential exercise in accountability, mutual learning, and accelerating the implementation of the SDGs.
In preparation for the submission of its second National Renewal Program (NRP) in July 2026, the Government of Gabon, through the Ministry of Planning and Foresight, in collaboration with the United Nations System, is undertaking a structured preparation process including:
A thorough review of the alignment of its national policies, plans and programmes with the targets and indicators of the SDGs;
A rigorous assessment of the progress made since the first RNV, based on reliable and up-to-date statistical data;
An analysis of persistent challenges and the identification of opportunities to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda;
A diagnosis of the institutional and statistical capacities needed for effective monitoring of the SDGs.
Specific objectives
Preparing a high-quality RNV requires significant technical mobilization and rigorous analysis at several levels:
From a statistical perspective : the availability, quality, and disaggregation of data remain major challenges. The national statistical system must be strengthened to regularly produce relevant SDG indicators.
From an economic perspective : analyzing the coherence between public policies and the SDGs requires specialized expertise in planning and evaluating development policies.
On an institutional level : multi-sectoral coordination and national ownership of the SDGs require appropriate technical support.
